A full-size anatomical model of the human skeleton on a mobile stand, with detachable skull bones and limbs, for biology and anatomy lessons in schools.

Description

This full-size model of the human skeleton shows the bone framework of the musculoskeletal system and is intended to form in students and pupils a spatial idea of the structure of the human skeleton, of the position and shape of the bones, of the types of connections between them and of the features of the skeleton related to upright walking. The model is used in lessons of biology and anatomy and in the study of human evolution, and its dimensions allow the elements of the structure to be demonstrated from a distance of 5 metres. Work with the model is conducted by a teacher or a specialist who has been instructed in labour protection, and pupils examine and study the model under the supervision of an adult; the recommended age of learners is from 10 years, that is pupils of grade 5 and above.

The height of the skeleton is 178 cm, and it is made of a specialised plastic (PVC) that accurately imitates bone tissue; the colouring is natural and realistic, corresponding to the anatomical subject. The vertebral column has five sections with cartilage pads between the vertebrae and shows the branching of the arteries and nerves, and the model displays the anatomically accurate structure of the spine, the articular surfaces and the intervertebral openings for nerves and vessels. The skull comprises the facial and the cerebral sections, with a removable cranial cap and a movable lower jaw. The arms and the legs are detachable and have correct joint geometry, and the limbs are attached on a flexible base of hinged connections that provides movement within the natural anatomical amplitude; the cranial bones and the upper and lower limbs are removed for individual study. The skeleton is mounted on a mobile metal frame on plastic wheels with locking brakes, which allows the model to be moved easily around the room.

The set includes the human skeleton model assembled with the skull, the spine, the thorax, the pelvis and the limbs — 1 pc, a mobile metal stand with castors — 1 pc, fastening units, namely a hook, a rod and screws, for suspending the skeleton on the stand — 1 set, a legend poster with a list of anatomical landmarks depending on the version, and the passport with the operating instructions — 1 pc. The exact composition of the set is given in the packing list; the bones and anatomical areas may be numbered, and the decoding of the numbers is contained on the legend poster, which is recommended to be fixed next to the model. The model is supplied assembled on the stand and requires no preliminary assembly or fitting before work.

The model is suitable for frontal demonstration to the whole class. The stand is placed on a level horizontal floor away from doors, passages and heating appliances, the castors are locked and the fastening of the skeleton on the stand and the tightening of all screws are checked before each demonstration; the model is moved slowly by holding the bar of the stand, not the skeleton. Parts are removed and installed smoothly, without jerks, and movements in the joints are performed only within the natural amplitude. Surfaces allow wiping with a dry or slightly damp cloth; dust is removed with a soft brush, while alcohol, acetone, solvents, abrasive powders and chlorine-based agents are excluded, and the model is not washed under a stream of water and not immersed in liquid. The screws of the stand and of the fastening unit, the castors and the attachment of the limbs are checked monthly. The product is kept in a dry, clean and ventilated heated room at an air temperature from +5 to +40 °C and relative humidity of 80 % without condensation, away from heat sources and out of direct sunlight, dust and moisture. Marking and operating documentation are in Ukrainian, and the marking carries the trade mark, the model and a place for the inventory number. The service life is 5 years and the warranty period is 12 months from the date of sale.
