Digital Laboratory for the Biology Classroom (Student Kit)

A student digital laboratory of six autonomous wireless sensors for biology and ecology practical work from grade 5 upwards, supplied with a 70-hour LMS course and an AI assistant.

Description

The LABOTRIX SENSE BIO L4 is a digital laboratory for the biology classroom, supplied as a student kit for one workstation and intended for laboratory, practical and research work in biology and the related natural science subjects. It measures temperature, illuminance, air humidity and soil moisture, as well as the acidity and the electrical conductivity of aqueous solutions, so students can work on ecology, plant physiology and the basics of field observation methods. One kit serves a single student or a pair of students at one place; every sensor is autonomous, so several kits can run at the same time in different corners of the classroom or on the school grounds, while front-of-class demonstration experiments are run by the teacher with the teacher edition of the laboratory. The platform combines hardware, multimedia content and elements of generative artificial intelligence, which makes lessons inclusive and engaging and develops attention, logical and visual thinking, creativity and the skills of working together.

The kit contains six wireless sensors. The temperature sensor has a resolution of 0.01 °C over a range of -50 °C to +200 °C; the light sensor a resolution of 1 lux over 0–8000 lux; the air humidity sensor a resolution of 0.1 % over 0–100 %; the soil moisture sensor a resolution of 0.1 % over 0–100 %; the water quality (pH) sensor a resolution of 0.01 pH over 0–14 pH; and the conductivity sensor a resolution of 1 μS/cm over 0–20,000 μS/cm. Each sensor carries a colour liquid crystal display with a diagonal of 1.8 inch that shows the measurement result on the body of the instrument at the moment it is taken, in a form fit for use during the experiment. The sensors work entirely on their own, without a datalogger or an additional analogue-to-digital converter, and are powered by a built-in rechargeable battery. Results travel to a computer, a mobile device or a cloud service wirelessly over Bluetooth, and a wired USB connection is supported as well; several sensors can be read at the same time. The supplied software has a Ukrainian interface, is compatible with the operating system of the device used in the school, shows data as tables and graphs and exports results to spreadsheet editors. The kit works indoors at an air temperature of +5 to +40 °C and a relative humidity of 40 to 60 % without condensation, and the probes of the soil moisture and water quality sensors are fit for immersion in natural samples outside the classroom, on the school grounds or at a body of water. The service life is 5 years and the warranty period is 12 months.

The set includes a wireless temperature sensor, a wireless light sensor, a wireless air humidity sensor, a wireless soil moisture sensor, a wireless water quality (pH) sensor and a wireless conductivity sensor — one of each; a box with a moulded insert that holds every instrument in its own cell; a USB cable for connection to a computer; an access licence to the online course with the language model assistant; an operating manual with methodological materials for the teacher and for the student; software supplied as a download link; a passport with a warranty card; and individual transport packaging. Soil and water samples for the experiments are prepared by the teacher, and the software is installed before first use.

Together with the product comes the right of access to an online teaching support course hosted in a learning management system and designed for 70 academic hours of lessons, compiled to the current curricula of Ukrainian general secondary education. The materials are grouped into research modules in physics, biology, chemistry and STEM, and each topic carries a lesson plan, a list of the equipment needed, a scenario for the experiment, a step-by-step laboratory work instruction with an explanation of the expected result, a video demonstration of working techniques, interactive exercises and tasks for independent study and for project work, fit for individual and for group work alike. All modules are compiled for this same equipment and tested on it, so the course runs along a direct chain from equipment to methodology to learning results.

The kit includes an AI assistant built into the learning management system on retrieval-augmented generation. It selects research tasks and experiments matching the topic of the lesson, describes the procedure of the experiment step by step, identifies typical student errors and gives personalised recommendations for correcting them, adapts task difficulty to different levels of student preparation, supports students in compiling reports on research results and in structuring the conclusions drawn from experiments, and works on a localised knowledge base aligned with the national curriculum of Ukraine. The licence for the course and the software is valid for 12 months; content, interface and learning materials are in Ukrainian. The sensors of this kit send their readings to the electronic platform automatically, so a student copies nothing from the display and types no numbers by hand, and the assistant works with that data directly: it builds graphs and tables, processes the results, shows the patterns that appeared during the experiment, compares the measurements with the reference values of the work and leads the student to formulate a hypothesis, a conclusion and an interpretation within a defined corridor of knowledge, narrowing the search rather than handing over a ready answer. The interface of the learning platform is multilingual: the Ukrainian localisation is on by default and an English interface is available as an option.

The teacher calibrates the pH sensor with the buffer solutions of pH 4, 7 and 10 before regular use, prepares the samples and supervises the class; students work under a teacher or a laboratory assistant who has been instructed in occupational safety. The built-in batteries are charged in full with the supplied USB cable before first use and recharged once a quarter. A probe that has been in contact with a sample is wiped with a clean damp cloth before the next measurement, which prevents cross-contamination; the pH electrode is rinsed with clean water and stored so that its membrane does not dry out, and the sensors are dried before they return to their cells in the box. Sensors are not immersed past the marked immersion limit and are kept out of concentrated acids, alkalis and organic solvents. The product is intended for educational work under the supervision of a teacher and is recommended for students aged 10 and older, that is grade 5 and above.
