This desktop model of the Earth demonstrates the degree grid and teaches work with geographic coordinates. The globe shows parallels and meridians, the equator, the main geographic parallels – the tropics and the polar circles – and the prime meridian. It is used in geography lessons when studying the ways of representing the Earth and geographic coordinates, and in grades 5 to 11 for revising the movements of the Earth, illumination and time zones.
The sphere has a diameter of 300-320 mm and rotates freely around a fixed axis, which is inclined at 66.5 degrees to the plane of the stand, matching the tilt of the Earth’s axis. The surface carries the degree grid of parallels and meridians, the equator, the tropics, the polar circles, the prime meridian and the pole markings, together with the continents, the oceans and the names of the main parallels and meridians in Ukrainian. Continents, oceans and grid lines are printed in contrasting colours for clear visual distinction. The model has no backlight and needs no power supply; it is placed on a flat surface of a demonstration or student desk and is supplied assembled, so it suits both frontal demonstration to the class and individual work at a desk.
The set includes the globe model assembled, that is the sphere on its axis – 1 pc; the stand, that is the base – 1 pc; the axis fastening elements depending on the version, according to the packing list; a passport with a warranty card – 1 pc; and individual transport packaging – 1 pc.
Carry the globe with both hands, holding it by the stand and supporting the sphere from below, and rotate only the sphere itself, taking it by the equator; never rotate it by the axis or push it at the poles. Point at lines and objects with a pointer rather than a finger. Wipe the sphere and the stand with a dry soft microfibre cloth, removing visible dirt with a cloth slightly moistened in clean water and drying immediately; solvents, alcohol, acetone, glass cleaners, chlorine agents and abrasives are not allowed. Operating conditions are a school room with an air temperature from +5 to +40 degrees Celsius and a relative humidity from 40 to 60 percent without condensate, away from direct sunlight and heating appliances. The service life is 5 years and the warranty period is 12 months from the date of sale.
