Digital Laboratory for the Physics Classroom (Teacher)

A teacher digital physics laboratory of 12 kinds of wireless sensors with 1.8-inch colour displays, software and a 70-hour digital course with an AI assistant, for experiments and demonstrations in mechanics, thermodynamics, electricity and acoustics.

Description

The LABOTRIX SENSE PHY L2 digital laboratory is a teacher set for experimental work and demonstrations in physics in general secondary schools and higher education institutions. It allows teachers and students to carry out 11 experimental tasks and demonstrations in such fields of physics as mechanics, thermodynamics, electricity and acoustics, taking measurements from the laboratory setup in real time and having the results uploaded and displayed on the end device, a screen or a web platform, for further use and processing by students on an electronic platform with AI functions. The laboratory combines digital measuring instruments, computer software, multimedia content and elements of generative artificial intelligence, which makes lessons inclusive and engaging for students of different levels of preparation; it suits frontal demonstration in front of the class as well as individual and group work by students.

The set works together with a computer of the educational institution running Windows or macOS, and the sensors exchange data with it over a radio-frequency (Bluetooth) connection with a range of 10 metres in open space, and also support a wired connection including USB and transfer to a mobile device or a cloud service, with simultaneous reading of data from several sensors. Each sensor carries a colour LCD display with a diagonal of 1.8 inches which shows the measurement result on the spot, at the moment it is obtained, in a form fit for use during the experiment, and each sensor works fully autonomously, without a datalogger or any other additional analogue-to-digital converter for passing the results to a computer or a tablet. The sensors are powered by built-in rechargeable batteries and are charged by the supplied charger, which charges four sensors at a time; the data sampling rate runs from 1 to 1000 Hz depending on the sensor and the measurement mode. The software records, analyses and visualises the experimental data in real time, displays it as tables and graphs and exports it to spreadsheet editors and other programs, and its interface is in Ukrainian with English available as an option. Sensor bodies are made of impact-resistant plastic and metal; operating conditions are a room of an educational institution at an air temperature from +5 to +40 °C and relative humidity from 40 to 60 % without condensate, the service life is 5 years and the warranty period is 12 months. The computer is not part of the set.

The set includes 12 kinds of sensors, 13 instruments in all, since only the photogate sensor is doubled: wireless photogate sensors — 2 pcs, range 0–10 s, resolution 0.1 ms; a wireless three-axis accelerometer/altimeter, range from -5 g to +5 g on the XYZ axes, resolution 0.01 g; a wireless force sensor, range from -50 N to +50 N, resolution 0.01 N; a wireless current sensor for direct and alternating current, range from -3 A to +3 A, resolution 0.01 A; a wireless micro-current (galvanometric) sensor, range from -30 µA to +30 µA, resolution 0.01 µA; a wireless voltage sensor, range from -25 V to +25 V, resolution 0.01 V with a passport accuracy of ±0.1 V; a wireless charge sensor, range from -50 nC to +50 nC, resolution 0.1 nC; a wireless magnetic field sensor, range from -84 mT to +84 mT, resolution 0.01 mT; a wireless light sensor, range 0–8000 lux, resolution 1 lux; a wireless thermocouple sensor, range from -200 °C to +1200 °C, resolution ±0.5 °C; a wireless gas pressure sensor measuring relative pressure, range 0–700 kPa, resolution 0.1 kPa; and a wireless sound sensor, range 20 Hz–20000 Hz and 20 dB–120 dB, resolution 0.1 dB. The set also includes a licence for the data analysis software; a box with moulded insert trays for the sensors; a set of auxiliary equipment made up of stands, wires, holders and clamps; a charger that charges four sensors at a time; a USB cable for connection to a computer; an operating instruction and a methodological guide for the teacher and for the student with a catalogue of experiments and project works; the passport with the warranty card; individual transport packaging; and the right of access to the online course with the language-model assistant.

The product is supplied with the right of access to an online teaching support course hosted in a learning management system (LMS) and designed for 70 academic hours of lessons, compiled to the current curricula of general secondary education institutions of Ukraine. The materials are grouped into research modules in the subjects of physics, biology, chemistry and STEM, and each topic contains a lesson plan, a list of the equipment needed, a scenario for conducting the experiment, a step-by-step instruction for the laboratory work with an explanation of the expected result, a video demonstration of the working techniques, and interactive exercises and tasks for independent study and for project activity, suitable both for individual and for group work. All modules are compiled for this same equipment and have been tested on it, so the course links a unit of equipment, the methodology of its use and the expected learning outcomes. The sensors of the set send their measurement results to the electronic platform automatically, so a student does not copy the reading off the display or type the numbers in by hand, and the built-in artificial intelligence agent works with that body of data: it builds graphs and tables from it, processes the results obtained, shows the patterns that appeared during the experiment, compares the measured values against the reference values for the given laboratory work, and leads the student to formulate a hypothesis, a conclusion and an interpretation on his own within the set “corridor of knowledge”, narrowing the search to the right direction rather than prompting a ready answer. This integration makes full-scale digital research possible without manual entry of data.

The kit includes an AI assistant built into the learning management system on retrieval-augmented generation. It selects research tasks and experiments matching the topic of the lesson, describes the procedure of the experiment step by step, identifies typical student errors and gives personalised recommendations for correcting them, adapts task difficulty to different levels of student preparation, supports students in compiling reports on research results and in structuring the conclusions drawn from experiments, and works on a localised knowledge base aligned with the national curriculum of Ukraine. The licence for the course and the software is valid for 12 months; content, interface and learning materials are in Ukrainian. The interface of the software platform is multilingual: the Ukrainian localisation is enabled by default and an English interface is available as an option.

The laboratory is intended for educational work in general secondary education institutions and is used only under the control and supervision of a qualified teacher or instructor; the recommended age of learners is from 10 years, that is pupils of grade 5 and above. Before the first use the sensors are charged in full with the supplied charger, the software is installed on the computer, and on start it detects the available sensors within the range of the connection. The sensors run on low voltage, yet the voltage sensor is not used to measure mains voltage over 50 volts, the terminals of the sensors are not short-circuited, and the sensors are not heated, disassembled, immersed in liquids or brought into a strong magnetic field that would affect their readings. Wipe the sensors with a soft dry cloth and do not wash them under running water. Store the set in its original packaging in a dry closed room at a temperature from +5 to +40 °C and relative humidity to 80 % without condensation, and check and top up the charge of the sensor batteries when storage lasts longer than 3 months.
