This digital document camera is a portable device for capturing and transmitting images of objects, documents and printed materials during lessons, school events and presentations. A high-resolution sensor and a lens with automatic focusing show small details, text and drawings clearly, and the shooting range covers formats from A5 to A3, which includes flat documents of A4 format and larger ones. The camera is used in classrooms of the natural science and mathematics subjects — biology, physics and astronomy, chemistry, technology, robotics, mathematics and geography — for demonstrating documents, scanning materials and video recording of learning tasks, with the image shown to the whole class through a projector or a panel. Work with the camera is organised by the teacher, students work under supervision and the recommended age of learners is from 10 years, that is pupils of grade 5 and above.
The image sensor is a CMOS sensor of 8 megapixels and the horizontal resolution is 1800 TV lines over the HDMI and USB outputs. Zoom is 4x without loss of quality and 7x digital, giving a total magnification of 30 times; focusing works in automatic and manual modes and white balance is likewise automatic and manual. The output resolution over VGA is 1920 × 1080 at 30 frames per second and 1024 × 768 at 30 frames, over HDMI 1920 × 1080 at 30 frames and 4K 3840 × 2160 at 30 frames with a 4K display, and over USB 3840 × 2160 at 20 frames or 1920 × 1080 at 30 frames. Digital images are saved in JPG and BMP and the video stream over USB uses MJPEG. Image processing covers black-and-white and colour modes, negative, horizontal mirroring, text and general modes, brightness and sharpness adjustment and frame freezing. The lens is operated from an infrared remote control with a standard operating range. Power is supplied through a USB Type-C port at 5 V and 2 A. The input interface is one HDMI for connecting external signal sources and the output interfaces are one VGA, one HDMI and one USB 2.0 type B. The camera is mounted on a flexible stand with a stable base, the tilt angle is adjusted by hand and the folding design allows the camera to be stored compactly and deployed quickly; dimensions unfolded are 350 × 260 × 115 mm and folded 350 × 310 × 115 mm. A light indicator on the body shows the standby and the active mode. Operating conditions are the premises of an educational institution at an air temperature from +5 to +40 °C and relative humidity from 40 to 60 % without condensate. Marking and operating documentation are in Ukrainian and the marking carries the trade mark, the model and a place for the inventory number. The service life is 5 years and the warranty period is 12 months.
The set includes the Visio D1 document camera — 1 pc; a Type-C power adapter — 1 pc; a remote control — 1 pc; a VGA cable for connection to a projector or a monitor — 1 pc; a USB cable for synchronisation with a computer — 1 pc; an HDMI cable for digital connection — 1 pc; software for working with the document camera, compatible with the Windows and Linux operating systems of the teacher’s personal computer — 1 set; the passport with the warranty coupon — 1 pc; and individual transport packaging — 1 pc. Batteries for the remote control are not part of the set and are obtained separately, and the device needs no additional assembly before the first use. It is supplied in an individual corrugated cardboard box with the contents fixed inside.
The camera is installed on the teacher’s desk on a level stable surface, the Type-C adapter is connected to the socket on the rear panel and plugged into an earthed mains socket, and the red indicator shows the standby mode. The required cable is then connected — HDMI, VGA or USB depending on the output device — and the power button on the panel or on the remote control switches the camera on, which is confirmed by the white indicator. The document or object is placed under the lens at a distance of 10 to 50 centimetres, focus is set with the autofocus button or manually with the NEAR and FAR buttons, the zoom is set with the TELE and WIDE buttons and the image is adapted to the lighting of the classroom with the BRI− and BRI+ buttons. The Source button switches between the camera, VGA, HDMI and other inputs without reconnecting cables, the Resol button changes the output resolution for the type of display, the Snap button takes still digital photographs saved on the computer and the Record button starts and stops video recording in 4K or 1080P. If the room is colder than +5 °C the camera is left for one hour at room temperature before use so that no condensate forms on the lens.
Only the power adapter supplied by the manufacturer is used, and the camera is not operated or stored in damp places, near water or where liquids and foreign objects can enter the ports and connectors. The lens and the optics are not touched with fingers or objects and are cleaned with special optical cleaning paper or a cotton swab moistened in pure alcohol, with soft circular movements from the centre to the edges; strong light is not directed into the lens and the camera is not left in direct sunlight for a long time. The body is wiped with a dry soft cloth and the ports with a dry brush, while abrasive powders, pastes, chlorine-based agents and organic solvents are not used. Every month the reliability of the cable connections and the absence of play in the stand joints are checked, and every quarter the image quality is checked and the lens cleaned if it has deteriorated; the camera needs no lubrication or calibration by the user. After work the camera is switched off, the adapter is disconnected from the socket during long breaks and during thunderstorms, and the lens is closed with the dust cover.
